Coriole Music Festival

The next Coriole Music Festival will be held on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th May 2012.

Three concerts held over the first weekend of May, in the Barrel Room at Coriole, McLaren Vale, South Australia.

Experience seldom played musical masterpieces at the 2012 Coriole Music Festival; a weekend of fine music, food and wine in the beautiful McLaren Vale winery region of South Australia.

The annual Coriole Music Festival is a weekend celebration of outstanding chamber music performed in Coriole's acoustically superb Barrel Room. The 14th Coriole Music Festival will bring together some of the finest chamber musicians from around Australia to present a fascinating exploration of the development and influence of music from Italy.

Selected by Music Director, Professor Christopher Burrell, the program will focus on Italian music from the Renaissance through to the development of madrigals and oratorio, and the sweeping changes in violin playing and writing from the 16th century through to modern times.

We will hear works by Stradella, Corelli, Monteverdi, Tartini, Vivaldi, Paganini, Respighi and Berio, together with four different settings of the Stabat Mater text, from early plainsong to Elena Kats-Chernin's Mater (2000).

We will also hear modern Australian choral pieces including the world premiere of madrigals by Sydney composer Raffaele Marcellino (b. 1964). The Festival will culminate in a performance of the wonderful Pergolesi Stabat Mater.

Performers include the Sydney-based Song Company on one of their rare visits to Adelaide, acclaimed violinist Natsuko Yoshimoto together with pianist Josephine Allan, and an ensemble of original baroque instruments led by early music specialist Lucinda Moon.

Christopher Burrell, says the Festival promises to be a magical weekend.

"The 2012 Coriole Music Festival will give the audience a stimulating and unforgettable musical experience followed by great food and wine in a convivial atmosphere; it will be a weekend to treasure!"

"The concert venue at Coriole Vineyards in South Australia's beautiful McLaren Vale has a wonderful acoustic for chamber and vocal music."

After each of the concerts the musicians and audience have the opportunity to get to know each other over Coriole's own highly awarded wines and an Italian inspired meal featuring local South Australian produce prepared by Tina Llewellyn from The Rolling Pin.
